Welcome to
a Fantastic World
I build technologies, organizations, and stories that imagine a fantastic future. From my theory of persistence, which sits at the heart of my sci-fi writing, to pioneering conversational AI that transformed healthcare, to creating groundbreaking tools for self-published writers, I thrive at the intersection of imagination and execution.
As the founder of Spoken, I’m helping writers turn their stories into audio experiences using AI. Before Spoken, I co-founded Conversa, a platform that connected patients and care teams using conversational AI. My earlier work includes creating the profiling and personalization behind WebMD. Along the way, I’ve built technologies that span collaborative movie-making, ontology-driven knowledge graphs, and concept-based health record threading.
A little about me …
Originally from Wanamaker, Indiana, I received my MD at Indiana University School of Medicine and hold a Masters degree in Public Health from Oregon Health & Science University. After beginning my surgical career, I switched to technology with a vision for empowering patients. Following the sale of Conversa, I pivoted again, this time to follow my dream of writing sci-fi and completing my debut novel, Taming the Perilous Skies.
I now split my time between Sauvie Island and Oceanside, Oregon. I restarted the Oregon Crusaders to support youth education in the performing arts, and continue to be a fanatic for resonant harmonics, whether by brass, voice, organ, or strings. You might find me moderating discussions on r/antigravity, botching the Italian language, or throwing the ball for my labrador retriever.
Whether crafting AI systems, exploring new realms in physics, or writing stories about imagined worlds, I’m driven by one constant: a belief in the transformative power of ideas.
